The 77th Street Underpass project that has long been a dream of Richfield City Staff and Government has now become a reality! Thanks to the concerted efforts of the Richfield Chamber of Commerce, City Staff, City Government, and the unrelenting efforts of Rep. Linda Slocum – (DFL) District: 50A and Sen. Melissa H. Wiklund – (DFL) District 50 the project will receive a little more than half of the funds necessary for the project as part of the $1.165 billion capital investment package that passed in the legislature last week.
The underpass will complete the final piece of the 77th Street Corridor to connect the Mall of America and MSP Airport; it will relieve congestion on I-494 and position Richfield to be a “regional powerhouse” through redevelopment opportunities that result from improved connections.
Without the dedicated work of all parties, the tunnel proposal would never have succeeded. Be sure to reach out and thank your legislators today!
