Black Friday has become the premier shopping event of the year for most people. Likewise, businesses rely on a successful Black Friday to maximize annual profits.

According to the National Retail Federation, the 2015 Thanksgiving weekend saw more than 151 million bargain-hungry shoppers open up their wallets for online and in-store purchases, exceeding the anticipated number of 136 million. Online purchases have surpassed in-store buys, 103 million to 102 million. The average spending per person over the weekend totaled nearly $300, with most shoppers being under the age of 35. This year, the NRF expects sales in November and December, excluding autos, gas and restaurant sales, to increase a solid 3.6 percent to $655.8 billion.

Richfield businesses are also getting ready for Black Friday. The Richfield Tourism Promotion Board (Visit Richfield) is planning a Black Friday Sweepstakes, featuring a $500 Best Buy gift card, 2 nights’ stay at the Four Points by Sheraton with dinner at the Lyndale Smokehouse, and 2 large pizzas from Broadway Pizza. The contest will run from November 17th through the 22nd, so stay tuned!
