Pizza Luce

Location Information
800 W 66th Street
Richfield, MN 55423

I’ve been a fan of Pizza Lucé since the mid 1990’s when I first tasted a slice of their Spanish Chicken pizza (a must-try). Needless to say, I was thrilled when I discovered one of their restaurants located in the former home of Bridgeman’s Ice Cream Parlour, just down the street from where I now work. Every time I drive by it smells delicious and I haven’t been disappointed yet in their food, service or atmosphere any of the three times I have been there so far. Each of the Pizza Lucé locations has a different vibe and the Richfield location is no less hip, modern yet family-friendly, in their décor, space planning and food and drink selections. They can accommodate small or large groups in either their main dining area, sunny, front dining room or outdoor summer patio.

THE PIZZA LUCE EXPERIENCE

On this most recent visit, a colleague and I went in for lunch. We were greeted right away by several friendly staff members, just as I had been on the previous two visits, and seated promptly in the main dining room which is fair-sized, adjacent to their full-bar area and has both booth and table seating. They have a lovely outdoor patio as well, but on this particular day it was quite hot and humid so we opted to dine indoors. Our server was very friendly and attentive from her first greeting and throughout our entire visit. Since I was already a fan of their pizza and had tried the Muffuletta Hoagie on a previous visit (also very tasty), I decided to order the Mostaccioli with Meatballs and made a special request to have them sub in one of their Veggieballs so that I could try it. After confirming my request with the kitchen, it was a go and our order was in.

Coming from Italian heritage, I am always curious to taste sauce recipes at different restaurants.  Our food arrived in an appropriate amount of time for the lunch hour. The Mostaccioli was baked to perfection and was accompanied by a large piece of toasted focaccia bread which was, I might add, to die for. I don’t know if the true essence of the sauce came through in the Mostaccioli – probably because of the ricotta cheese – but I had been craving this dish for a while and it was everything that I expected. The portion was generous but not ridiculously large – perfectly sized to satisfy my hunger and still have leftovers (which, sadly I forgot). My colleague, who’s vegetarian, had a slice of the Veggie Pizza and the Garden Salad, which was also accompanied by toasted focaccia bread – one of his faves. I think the speed in which he devoured what was in front of him speaks for itself as to how consistently good the food is.

Pizza Lucé has a wide variety of creative menu options as well as rotating specials so it seems there is always something new and different to choose from. They also have an impressive array of selections for vegetarians and those who are gluten free making it a great spot for business lunches, meet and greets, large groups or families. One of the things that I noticed about the interior on this visit was the cool, open wood-beamed ceiling which I thought was a unique, architectural feature. The other nice touch was the vase of fresh, garden flowers on each table. From the food to the service to variety and atmosphere, my overall experience was a positive one and I will be returning to dine in, take out, check out happy hour or all of the above!
