MnDOT has notified the City of Richfield that up to $2.5 million has been approved to complete the design of the 77th Street Underpass. To date this is the only amount funding that has been officially secured; however, officials have been told that completed plans will make the project more attractive for future funding opportunities. Officials indicate that the next step will be to issue an RFP (request for proposal) to consultants and then select a design leader; the RFP process is expected to begin this spring. Funds can’t be used to buy land needed for the project – officials are pursuing several options for state funding to acquire Motel 6 because the planned road goes right over the top of the building. Questions about the 77th Street Underpass can be directed to Jeff Pearson, City of Richfield Transportation Engineer, 612.861.9791. Read the full Star Tribune article here.
