As you know, we have expanded our annual Salute to Small Business Awards ceremony to honor multiple businesses and non-profits across our community. We will be celebrating all our award winners at our inaugural Richfield Circle of Excellence Awards Ceremony on February 21 at the Best Buy corporate campus! We are excited to begin to announce our recipients. Our Small Business of the Year winner joined our chamber community in 2013 and has quickly risen to the top by developing community relationships. During that time, they have expanded from their original location in Bloomington to open offices in Edina, Brooklyn Center and Grand Rapids. We are proud to announce that Sue Basiago and her team at Midland Title (which includes our 2017 Chamber Chairwoman Colleen Nagle) as the recipient of the 2017 Small Business of the Year!
Sue acquired Midland Title in 2008 and has grown the company ever since. One of Sue’s great strengths is her commitment to giving back to local communities. As part of her commitment of civic service, the employees at Midland Title are given the opportunity each year to contribute financially to a non-profit of their choosing. Through this generous spirit, Midland Title was recently awarded membership to The Minnesota Keystone Program. The Minnesota Keystone Program recognizes companies that donate at least two percent of their pre-tax earnings to the community. In 1976, 23 Minnesota companies started this program (originally called the 5% Club) to recognize charitable giving and to set an example for other Minnesota companies. The commitment of Keystone participants promises to sustain Minnesota’s spirit of generosity and sense of community. In addition to her charitable giving, last year, Midland Title hired Richfield DECA student Ashley Hernandez as an administrative assistant. Through networking at the Salute to Small Business awards ceremony, Ms. Hernandez expressed her interest in the real estate industry and was introduced to Midland Title’s Business Development Director, Colleen Nagle. Ms. Nagle was so impressed that she continued the conversation after the event and created an internship within Midland Title, for Ms. Hernandez. We are so proud to honor Midland Title with the Small Business of the Year award!
