For this edition of Richfield Reviews I visited Houlihan’s, located in the bottom level of the office building on 66th Street and Lyndale Avenue South. Houlihan’s is a relaxed chain restaurant with an expansive menu including pub fare, steaks and pasta. They have a full bar with a great selection of wines, draft beers (including rotating craft beers), and spirts. The décor is warm and welcoming, making you feel as though you are in a neighborhood-favorite pub, not just another boring chain. There is seating in both the bar area and the restaurant that can accommodate both big and small groups.
Parking is located in the free attached parking ramp. After parking and entering the building through the main level you walk across a newly renovated atrium in the office building. Houlihan’s is quite open to the rest of the building, with an “indoor patio” that opens up to the atrium as well as an outdoor patio for those nicer days when you just want to sit back and watch what is happening on 66th Street.
I went during their happy hour, which includes steep discounts on appetizers and 2-for-1’s on taps, house wine, and bar pours. For my happy hour meal I chose to go with the Parmesan Frites, Houlihan’s Famous ‘Shrooms, and a pint of a seasonal Octoberfest beer. I sat right at the bar, where the bartender was very friendly and quick to take my order. I had my food and drinks in what felt like just a matter of minutes. Both appetizers were very good. I especially enjoyed the Parmesan Frites, as they came with a trio of sauces. My favorite being the garlic dipping sauce.
Overall my experience at Houlihan’s was great. From the friendly service, to the great happy hour specials and food, it is safe to say I will be making them my go-to happy hour spot in Richfield in the future.
