Richfield Reviews by Kerry Galbraith
As the snow melts and the weather gets warmer, I, like many Minnesotans, start to look outdoors for something to do. If you can relate, I’d highly recommend taking a stroll on the lovely paved paths of Veterans Memorial Park in Richfield. The park was quiet and serene on a Wednesday morning despite the unseasonably warm weather.
The park is home to Richfield’s largest playground facility, which was in great shape despite the muddy spring conditions. Veterans Memorial Park is also home to several special events including the Richfield 4th of July Celebration, Urban Wildland Half Marathon/5k, and the Richfield Farmer’s Market. Come summer, this park will be the perfect spot to enjoy the outdoor picnic pavilion, the outdoor pool, and the Adventure Gardens Mini-Golf & Malt Shop! The picnic shelter is available to rent in the summer and would be a perfect spot for a birthday party or family reunion.
Upon entering the park, it’s hard to miss the beautiful All Veterans Memorial. From there, you can take the paved path that winds through marshland and passes by a partially frozen lake. Geese, ducks and redwing black birds have taken up residence in the marshy areas along the path. Whether you’re biking, running or just taking a leisurely stroll, these paved paths provide the ideal setting. Benches line the paths for those who want to sit and take in the natural surroundings.
Though spring is just starting to creep in and there isn’t much green yet, this park was still a lovely and serene place to spend my Wednesday morning. I can’t wait to stop back in a few months and see the explosion of color and activity that is sure to come.
