Richfield Sweet Streets – March Construction Update

Sweet Streets

Over the next few years, Richfield will be transformed with several road construction projects. Here’s an update from the City’s Public Works department covering the Portland Avenue, 69th Street, Mill and Overlay/Concrete work and the CenterPoint Energy Main and Service Replacement projects.

Portland Avenue Reconstruction

Portland Avenue will be reconstructed from 65th to 77th Street this year. We anticipate the project to go out to bid in early April and awarding the contract in May. City staff along with staff from Kimley Horn, the design consultant and the contractor will set up a neighborhood “Kick-off to Construction” meeting with residents along the corridor to provide information on what they can expect during the upcoming construction season. Find more details here.

69th Street Reconstruction

69th Street will be reconstructed from Knox to Humboldt Avenue with an anticipated start date of April 6, 2015 (weather dependent). The project contract was awarded to Ryan Construction at the March 14, 2015 City Council Meeting. A neighborhood “Kick-off to construction” meeting is scheduled for March 25, 2015 at 5pm at the Wood Lake Nature Center. Find more details here.

Mill and Overlay/ Concrete Work

The mill and overlay work for 2015 is anticipated to start mid-May and will be completed by July 1, 2015. The concrete curb and gutter replacement work is scheduled to begin July 15 and last into the fall of this year (2016 mill and overlay area will be 2015 concrete curb and gutter area). More details here.

CenterPoint Energy Main and Service Replacement

CenterPoint Energy is working with the City of Richfield to complete the natural gas main and service replacements in the areas ahead of the upcoming mill and overlay project. Gas line work within the 2015 mill and overlay project area will be completed this spring. CenterPoint will then move to the 2016 mill and overlay area. Hydroseed spray was applied last week by a CenterPoint subcontractor as an erosion control measure. The company will be out the end of April/early May to do the final restoration work.
