On January 8, the first Latina Mayor took the off of office in the state of Minnesota- and it happened in Richfield! Richfield welcomed incoming Mayor Maria Regan Gonzalez and City Council Member Mary Supple at Tuesday nights Council meeting. It was standing room only for the historic event and a strong indication of the direction we are moving. A successful community has many moving parts. Great residents, strong businesses, high-performing schools, strong elected officials and smart staff to help support it all. One of the best things about this community is that between our city leaders, school officials and our business innovators, open communication is direct and on-going. Each area of is successful because we all understand the value of working together. Working together has been a conscious effort between city leaders and the Chamber. We are excited to host our first economic development meeting at the end of the month. Richfield has been experiencing a development boom over the last year and we are committed to keep attracting the right kind of businesses to help our community thrive. Details for the meeting are available on the online calendar and pre-registration is required. We would love for you to join us in learning of development opportunities. Click here for details.
Dunkin’ Donuts hosted our first Coffee with the President this year, and it was great to catch up with members and discuss business opportunities and challenges they are working on in 2019. One of the topics that was discussed was workforce. It doesn’t matter if you are hiring for a minimum wage position, or a salaried employee. Lack of access to the right candidates is an obstacle across the board. Did you know that the Chamber has resources to connect you to? There are some great organizations within our community that can help eliminate some of these barriers, and the Chamber is working on implementing a program this year that will help you streamline the process. Stay tuned as development is underway! The other topic on everyone’s mind, managing your online profile and how to handle user feedback. We are in a digital world where information is accessible from your smartphone- as a business, we need to make sure the right information is getting in front of our customers. The Chamber will be addressing this throughout the year in our Chamber updates. It will also be aour member topic in April, so stay engaged to make sure you aren’t missing out.
We would also like to again, acknowledge our sponsors from last month’s holiday party. Candee Haagenson with Liberty Mutual and Headway Emotional Health. The Chamber has partnered with Ms. Haagenson and designated V.E.A.P. as the charity to give back to this month. So, would you like her to donate $20 to V.E.A.P. for FREE? She will donate $10 for EVERY new quote that is received when you mention V.E.A.P. That means if you elicit a quote for your home AND auto, you will be rewarding $20 to V.E.A.P.! Call Candee Haagenson at 612-486-3348 or send her an email, Candace.Haagenson@libertymutual.com and she will donate $10 for every insurance quote that you request. *some exclusions may apply
Mental health is an important topic and the Chamber will be offering solutions for our members and their employees in the coming year. Headway Emotional Services’ mission is to help you, your children and your family get back on the path toward positive, fulfilling lives. With more than 40 years in operation, Headway’s 200 plus caring staff in Golden Valley, Richfield Brooklyn Center and Hopkins provide comprehensive mental health services, counseling, and educational classes to more than 19,000 families each year. The Chamber will be helping our businesses create a positive work culture in an effort to help our members thrive. We are thrilled to partner with our local member, Headway Emotional Health!
